COACHING RESOURCES

Any parents that are planning on being involved with their child's ringette team must have a valid criminal record check.  This is mandatory for all coaches (Head and Assistants), volunteers, helping out on the ice & dressing rooms.  Managers and all Executive Board Members.

Record Checks are done online.  You can also share your CRC with other sports and associations.  Once they are done online, they are valid for 2 years and as a volunteer, there is no charge to you.

  • Maximum of 17 years of age by September 1st of the current ringette season
  • A current ringette player (or taking one year off due to injury, etc.)
  • Registered on the team roster in the Junior Coach role

Junior Coaches need to complete the Coach Initiation eModule:  https://www.coachingringette.ca/index.php?page=373

Junior coaches (18 and under) must wear a helmet when on the bench for insurance reasons.

Coach Initiation eModule - National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP)

The first step for any new coaches is to complete the Coach Initiation in Sport. Coach Initiation in Sport is an online NCCP module developed to introduce coaches to the foundational skills, such as: long-term athlete development, ethics, coaching motivation, and athlete safety and wellness. The Coach Initiation in Sport module also introduces coaches to the NCCP, a valuable tool for preparing a coach’s first in-person NCCP workshop. The module remains an excellent informational resource for coaches which they can revisit at any time after successful completion of the module. The course takes about 1 hour to complete and the cost will be reimbursed by KRA.

Coach Initiation in Sport is a valuable resource for:

  • Parents new to coaching
  • New coaches
  • Experienced coaches new to the NCCP
  • Athletes transitioning to coaching
  • Experienced NCCP coaches who need professional development, or a refresh on the fundamental principles of the NCCP
  • Sport administrators who work with the NCCP and coach development

On Ice Assistants

On Ice Assistants are parents or volunteers who wish to assist with practices and testing days.

Criteria are:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Assist teams registered in U19 or younger
  • Only help during practices and player evaluations; not certified to be on the bench for games; league or exhibition, tournaments, etc
  • Follow the same screening process as set by the local association (i.e. have Criminal Record Check every 2 years)
  • Be registered on the Team Roster as an On Ice Assistant
  • Must complete the Coach Initiation eModule https://coachingringette.ca/

Note: The Coach Initiation eModule does not expire and will not need renewal. To find out which statuses require renewal and Professional Development (PD) points, check the NCCP page.
